grocery haul (vanlife edition)

today let’s chat about groceries & vanlife! when we were making the transition into vanlife, we had lots of friends ask us how we’re going to store our food in the van, how we’ll cook in the van, how we’ll shop for groceries, and so much more!

so here’s A little background to help answer any questions before we jump into this week’s grocery haul! We store our food in two upper cabinets in our van. We usually take the food out of the bulky boxes and put them in containers or jars to save space. We cook on a eureka camp stove (& absolutely LOVE it). We also buy our groceries about twice a month. We currently don’t have a fridge (thanks to the lovely fridge shortage & the popularity around building vans) so we use a cooler that has worked for us, but its not the most convenient thing in the world since we have to fill it up with ice every 4 days or so but fingers crossed we’ll be able to get our dream fridge soon!

Alright, now that you have a little background let’s dive into our grocery haul!

When we lived in Charlotte, NC we always bought our groceries at target & still try to when we’re on the road because targets are usually pretty easy to find. we also love shopping at fresh market when we can find them!

here’s our go-to grocery haul:

  • Chocolate covered banana chips

  • Trail mix

  • Almonds

  • Granola

  • Popcorn

  • Blue corn chips

  • Crackers

  • Garlic & Herb Cheese

  • Rice

  • Pasta

  • Potatoes

  • Tortillas

  • Sandwich Bread

  • Couscous

  • Black Beans

  • Chickpeas

  • Veggies (small sweet peppers, cauliflower, & broccoli)

  • Fruits (bananas, blueberries, apples, & strawberries)

  • Salad mix & dressing

  • Peanut Butter

  • Jelly/Jam

  • Rolled Oats

  • Grits

  • eggs

  • Boxed wine or local beer

  • Dog food for Cash

There you have it - that’s pretty much our grocery haul! Nothing to crazy since we like to keep things simple around here. We love buying the staples & getting creative with our meals and spices! I am currently loving - rice bowls & potato tacos!

Now I’m curious, how often do you grocery shop, what are your go-to grocery items, do you make a list before you shop or do you wing it??
